Borneo
Borneo, the world's third-biggest island (behind Greenland and New Guinea) is divided into 3 countries. Malaysia on the north and west, Brunei in the middle of the west, and Indonesia on the south and east.
In June, 2025, I visited Borneo for the first time. I went to wildlife rich Sabah in Malaysia and Central Kalimantan in Indonesia.
Many talk about Madagascar and the unique species there, but Borneo is also home to many unique species. According to WWF, 44 mammals, 37 birds, and 19 fish species can only be found in Borneo.
My draw to visit Borneo was the orangutan and I was blessed with great sightings of the Borneo orangutan and many other species and birds.
My time in the Indonesia part was spent on a group photographic trip. We visited 4 locations and it was a dream come true to finally see orangutans in the wild.
After the group trip, I went over to the Indonesian side on my own to visit Camp Leakey.
Below you will find the links to blog posts and YouTube videos about my experiences in Ecuador.
