A 100-Mile Journey Through The Wild
There’s something magical about being in nature — not just observing wildlife, but being immersed in their world. The calm that settles in, the way your senses come alive, the grounding feeling that reminds you what really matters.
If you’ve ever been on safari, you know: there’s nothing else like it. And if you haven’t, trust me — it changes you.
That’s part of why I’m doing this walk.
In the fall, my sister, a close friend, other adventurers and I will walk 100 miles on foot through Tsavo National Park in Kenya. It’s called The Great Walk of Africa, and it’s run by a company called Tropical Ice. For 10 days, we’ll trek across wild terrain — no trails, just us, our guide, and the incredible wildlife that calls Tsavo home.
This walk will be hot, dusty, physically exhausting, and mentally challenging. I’m stepping far outside my comfort zone — training, fundraising, preparing for the unknown, and leaving behind all connection to home while I’m on the ground. But I’m doing it because I want to give something back.
Turning the Walk into a Fundraiser
A few weeks ago, I had a realization: what if I could use this walk to raise awareness — and money — for the very place I’d be walking through?
That’s when I decided to support Tsavo Trust, a nonprofit that works exclusively in Tsavo National Park and the surrounding communities. And that’s how this fundraiser was born.
My goal is to raise $15,000 to help protect Tsavo’s wildlife and wild spaces. Yes, it’s a big number, and yes, it’s scary to put out there. But every penny counts. Every share helps. Every voice makes a difference.
Will you walk with me — in spirit?

Why the Tsavo Trust?
Tsavo National Park is one of the largest protected areas in the world — over 10 million acres of rugged, raw wilderness. It’s home to some of the last remaining "big tuskers," iconic lions, leopards, and other incredible wildlife. And it’s also a challenging place, both for animals and the people working to protect them.
While there are many nonprofits working in Kenya, I chose Tsavo Trust because they are 100% focused on this ecosystem. Their boots-on-the-ground approach includes aerial surveillance, anti-poaching patrols, wildlife monitoring, and strong partnerships with local communities.
You can read more about their work at tsavotrust.org.
About the Walk
Over 10 days, we’ll cover approximately 100 miles on foot. We’ll follow ancient wildlife paths along the river, carrying only daypacks with essentials like water, first aid, water crossing shoes, and snacks.
We’ll walk from one temporary camp to the next. Each campsite — including our tents and gear — will be packed up and moved by the Tropical Ice crew. Camps are comfortable with raised beds, a shared long-drop toilet, and bucket showers. There’s no power, no internet, and no contact with the outside world.
It’s not just a physical journey — it’s a mental one too.
As Iain Allan, the founder of Tropical Ice, says:
"Out in Tsavo, confronted by other mammals on their own terms, in their natural environment, you are frequently reminded that being a human isn't that special... We are but a small part of a fragile ecosystem and habitat, which may ultimately disappear in our over-populated world."
Although I’ll be the one walking the 100 miles, your support will walk beside me every step of the way.
What Your Donation Can Do
$65 supports a teacher’s salary for one month.
→ Provides a month’s salary for a teacher educating 40 children in a conservation-adjacent community. This ensures consistent learning, equipping students with the ability to read, write, and do math while instilling environmental values. Every lesson nurture future conservation stewards—building both brighter futures and stronger ecosystems.
$200 supports an anti-poaching scout for a full month.
→ Funds a trained anti-poaching scout for a full month—protecting elephants, black rhinos, lions, people etc. Scouts patrol daily to detect threats, deter poachers, and respond swiftly to incidents. Your support keeps both wildlife and rangers safe while strengthening grassroots conservation from the ground up.
$350 keeps the conservation aircraft flying for an hour — Tsavo Trust averages 55 flight hours monthly!
→ This support will enable one hour of aerial surveillance — our “eyes in the sky” over Tsavo’s vast wilderness. These flights detect threats, locate injured animals, intercept illegal activity, and direct ground teams where they're needed most. Every flight hour strengthens protection and saves lives across this critical landscape.
$19,250 covers one full month of all aircraft operations — fuel, maintenance, and all associated costs.
→ Supports a full month of aerial protection operations, a critical lifeline for wildlife — protecting thousands of square kilometers of Tsavo. These strategic flights track endangered species such as Black Rhinos, Super Tuskers etc., deter illegal activities, guide ground teams to where they're needed most, and enable rapid response. Your support sustains the backbone of landscape-level conservation.
$24,840 funds the construction of a sand dam — a critical water source for wildlife during dry seasons.
→ They don’t have access to clean water like we do…and the sand dam provides sustainable water source for both wildlife and nearby communities — a single dam can sustain life through some of Tsavo’s harshest months.
Thank you for reading, supporting, and caring.
Whether it's a donation, a share, or a word of encouragement, it truly means the world to me - and to Tsavo.
